The Muskegon Museum of Art
When the Muskegon Museum of Art (MMA) opened in 1912 on the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan, it made international news as the first purposely built art museum in the United States in a city of its size. For more than 100 years, it has stood as one of the finest cultural institutions in the Midwest with a collection of size and quality typically found only found in large metro areas. Today the MMA is an active regional art museum providing year-round programs and opportunities for every segment of its diverse community. In 2017, the Muskegon Museum of Art welcomed visitors from all 50 states and 27 countries.
The Muskegon Museum of Art, founded on a tradition of aesthetic excellence, is committed to fostering the lifelong study and appreciation of the visual arts by strengthening, preserving and exhibiting its collections. The Museum enhances community involvement and support in a safe, accessible and welcoming environment. The MMA offers a wide range of traditional and contemporary exhibitions and stimulates learning and creativity through diverse public and educational programming.
The Pittsburgh Foundation
Established in 1945, The Pittsburgh Foundation is one of the nation’s oldest community foundations and is the 13th largest of more than 750 across the United States. Its resources comprise endowment funds established by individuals, businesses and organizations with a passion for charitable giving and a deep commitment to the Pittsburgh community. The Foundation currently has more than 2,000 individual donor funds and, together with its supporting organizations, assets of more than $1.14 billion. Its grantmaking benefits a broad spectrum of community life within Pittsburgh and beyond.
Through its Center for Philanthropy, the Foundation’s donors, including the Bennetts, work directly with staff and community-based subject matter experts to give strategically, to greatly increase their personal involvement in the grant-making process, and to develop and fund community solutions. The Pittsburgh Foundation is proud to collaborate with the Bennetts to advance the visibility and professional careers of female painters working in the figurative realistic style.
